Breaking Chains
I just want to walk outside and sing.
Under the moonlight, in the cold, crisp air.
Sing until the tears stream down my face, melting these wicked chains.
Filling this lonely, beautiful world with song.
With free feeling.
Tension builds in the air and time stops.
The words float around inside like strands of silk spinning cocoons.
I wonder of they’ll ever transform - grow wings and emerge.
Carrying me up to heights of new expression.
Could it be that all is needed is a glance? Not a word. Just a glance.
Showing them your vulnerable soul.
Showing them the love behind those dark brown eyes.
Silver swords and radiant rubies fade in the dark.
But the light that we’re capable of shines on.
Black wisps of smoke and sparks. Shadows hiding smiles.
Sparks turn into flames of unmistakable joy if you let them.
Ashes of winter’s frozen fire soon melt into rivers, rushing into the oceans and causing the seaweed forests to sway.
Swim through life like the merfolk.
Make your way from the depths to the surface.
Breathe in the sunlight,
During the bright day.
But now -
Breathe in the moonlight.
Close your eyes and trust your inner sight.
Close your eyes now.
Take my hand.
As your fingers mesh with mine, I feel like I’ve finally solved that puzzle.
Dream with me. We’ll float far away.
We’ll be who we want to be most.
We’ll just be us.
